Photo: Facebook / South African Police Service   The South African Police Service is bidding farewell to the Gauteng provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela. SAPS national police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe announced in a statement that today on January 31, is the last day of the police veteran after serving for nearly four decades. “Today, Lieutenant General Mawela will hang up his boots as he bows out of service after 39 years of uninterrupted, loyal and dedicated service,” Mathe said. “Mawela joined the SAPS as a student Constable in 1984 where he started serving in the Mamelodi policing precinct and worked his way up in the ranks to the level of Lieutenant General in 2011.” Outgoing Gauteng provincial police commissioner Elias Mawela has been hailed as the man of action. According to Khomotso Elron's Facebook post, the rapper, real name Lehlogonolo Chauke, was involved in a car accident near the Goseame Open Market in Polokwane, Limpopo. Photo: Supplied   It started as a dream for him to become a top-performing matriculant, and it eventually turned into a reality. Top achiever, Jonas  Kgakishi Moshabi of Seritarita High School in Mapela village, Mokopane, Limpopo said it has always been his dream to grace the national stage. On January 18, Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga recognized him as one of the top-performing matriculants, making that a reality. He bagged seven distinctions, including a 100% for both Mathematics and Geography. The 18-year-old Armoed-born, from Mokopane, said that when he received an email from the Department of Education, he was in disbelief. I am sure you are wondering who the educator is. His name is Malose Kleinbooi Mautla, and he is from Makekeng village in Mokopane, Limpopo. He teaches at Matopa Senior Secondary School, which falls under the Bakernburg South Circuit, where he matriculated. " Mr Spoy ," as his learners addressed him, said that he had to put in blood, sweat, and tears to achieve these outstanding results.  He explained that the outcomes did not surprise him because they were the result of the sweat of his brow. This comes after a four-year-old girl has passed on after choking on a marula fruit at Kauletsi village, in Lephalale. The police said in a statement that the incident occurred on January 18, at around 19:15. Photo: X / @DBE_SA Halala, the Matric Class of 2023 has achieved a pass rate of 82,9% This was announced by the Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga on January 18 evening, at the MTN Innovation Centre, in Randburg, north of Johannesburg. The national pass rate has increased by 2,89% from the 2022 pass rate of 80,1%. A total of 897, 775 candidates wrote the National Senior Certificate.  Meanwhile, 715, 719 full time candidates enrolled to write the examinations and of those 577, 983 passed, while 182, 056 candidates enrolled for part time. The Matrix Class of 2023 has achieved a pass rate of 82,9%. According to the police, the bodies of the deceased were found by a family member on January 16. Photo: X / @DBE_SA Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga is set to release the much anticipated National Senior Certificate results for the Class of 2023, today on January 18, at Randburg, north of Johannesburg. Over 900 000 candidates who wrote their matric examinations between October and November last year will receive their results on January 19. According to reports, the results will indicate whether the Class of 2023 has improved on the 80,1% pass rate of the Class of 2022, who had to work through the Coronavirus pandemic. The province with the highest matric pass rate in 2022 was the Free State with 88,5% then followed by Gauteng with 84,4%. Photo: SABC SABC1’s popular daily drama Skeem Saam will move to the new timeslot of 19:30, starting March 04. This was announced by the SABC by a statement stating that the  decision to move Skeem Saam to 19:30 is in line with the public broadcaster’s video entertainment’s strategy to amplify its primetime local drama offering to its viewers  strategy to amplify its prime-time local drama offering from 19:30 to 21:30pm. Skeem Saam  will join other popular dramas including  Generations – The Legacy ,  Uzalo  and SABC2’s  Muvhango  in the 19:30 to 21:30 prime-time slot. The SABC will host two hours of back-to-back drama on the SABC Video Entertainment platform, intentionally targeting a broader audience and ensuring the platform remains competitive.  Skeem Saam started gracing the screens in 2011 and was created by Winnie Serite.  The show is set in Johannesburg and Turfloop
