Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga to release the 2023 NSC results

Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga is set to release the much anticipated National Senior Certificate results for the Class of 2023, today on January 18, at Randburg, north of Johannesburg.

Over 900 000 candidates who wrote their matric examinations between October and November last year will receive their results on January 19.

According to reports, the results will indicate whether the Class of 2023 has improved on the 80,1% pass rate of the Class of 2022, who had to work through the Coronavirus pandemic.

The province with the highest matric pass rate in 2022 was the Free State with 88,5% then followed by Gauteng with 84,4%.

Independent Examination Board (IEB) Results:


The Independent Examination Board (IEB) has achieved an overall pass rate of 98,46% in the 2023 National Senior Certification examinations.

The pass rate has slightly increased than the 2022 NSC pass rate of 98,42%.

The board said in a statement that 88,59% of the learners achieved an entry to degree study, compared to 89,32% in 2022.

Meanwhile, the number of those who qualify for entry diploma study has also increased from 7,52% in 2022 to 8,31% this year.

However, the number of those who achieveed entry for study at higher certificate level remains at 1,57%.


Ministerial Breakfast With Top Achievers:


Today, Minister Angie Motshekga together with the Deputy Minister of Basic Education Dr Reginah Mhaule had a ministerial breakfast with the top achievers at the MTN Innovation Centre, in Randburg.

Addressing the 2023 top achievers Motshekga wished them luck for their future endeavours and encouraged them to follow their dreams.

“ "As we look ahead, let us continue to strive for an education system that enables an inclusive society where every child can achieve their full potential regardless of their background,” she said.

Meanwhile, South Africans and the candidates who wrote their exams last year are eagerly waiting for the release of the results.
