“I spent the entire year arguing with the learners that I taught, but now we are full of joy," said a teacher who achieved an excellent 93% pass rate on the subject - Business Studies.

I am sure you are wondering who the educator is. His name is Malose Kleinbooi Mautla, and he is from Makekeng village in Mokopane, Limpopo.

He teaches at Matopa Senior Secondary School, which falls under the Bakernburg South Circuit, where he matriculated.

"Mr Spoy," as his learners addressed him, said that he had to put in blood, sweat, and tears to achieve these outstanding results.

He explained that the outcomes did not surprise him because they were the result of the sweat of his brow.

"At the beginning of the year, we had to set the expected pass rate," he said as he described the preparation process.

"When I used to wake up every day at 05:20, the first thing that came into my mind was the pass rate that was extremely expected from me," he recalled.

Mr Spoy further said that is what motivated him to work tirelessly with his learners the entire year.

He stressed that the extra classes that they used to have throughout the year helped a lot in keeping the learners active after school hours and, especially away from distractions.

"In addition to that, even the camps that we used to have were extremely powerful in keeping them focused and committed in their school work."

What excites him the most is that one of his learners has been named the best learner on his subject across all of the schools in their circuit.

The father of one explained that he had to act as a father figure to his learners to achieve the desired outcome.

"I remember the other day during the camp, one of my learners fell sick and I took the learner to the hospital to get medical attention and I came back at around 04:00.”

Despite that, he pointed out that he had a great year with his learners and he is proud of them.

He added: “I wish them all the best in their future.”

The dedicated teacher added that none of this would have been possible without the support of the learners' parents, members of the school governing body, colleagues, principal, circuit manager, and curriculum adviser.

"They played a huge role in making it easy for me to teach my learners, and I wish things could be like that again this year," he said with a smile.

Malose Kleinbooi Mautla, also known as Mr Spoy, to his learners said that this year he hopes to obtain a 100% pass rate on the subject that he teaches.
