10 000 new cops to hit the streets to curb crime this festive season

Ziyakhala this festive season as the South African Police Service (SAPS) has recruited newly trained officers to combat crime.

The SAPS will host passing out parades of 10 000 newly trained constable’s.

The new officers are set to formally join the police service on December 15, and will be deployed at various police stations and service points to bolster countrywide crime combatting efforts.

This comes after they have completed a rigorous training of nine months called the Basic Police Development Learning Programme (BPDLP).

The recruitment drive of 10 000 police officers-dubbed Project 10k, is a direct response to the call from President Cyril Ramaphosa, to strengthen the policing capacity and enhance police visibility.

These new men and women in blue will be deployed to bolster police capacity at 1159 police stations and various units.


The parades will take place over three days from December 13 to 15 at various academies that include , Phillipi, Outshoorn, Chatsworth, Bhisho, Kroonstad, All Saints, Graaff-Reinet, Mankwe, Ulundi and Tshwane.


President Cyril Ramaphosa will preside and officiate over proceedings at the South African National Defence Force's (SANDF) 3 South African Infantry (SAl) Battalion in Kimberley on December 14.

We are continuously building capacity by adding more boots on the ground,” said the Minister of Police Bheki Cele, during a media briefing on law enforcement-related matters in Pretoria on December 10.


“The injection of new blood within our ranks will go a long way in assisting the SAPS to heighten and enhance police visibility throughout the country.”
