Ruthu! : Legendary radio presenter Maxwell ‘The Mixer-boy’ launches his foundation

Former Thobela FM presenter, Thamagana Maxwell Mojapelo who is well-known as ‘Max the mixer-boy’ has launched his first ever foundation.

The launch of the Maxwell Mojapelo Foundation (MMF) was held at SABC Polokwane Auditorium, on September 29.

Max the mixer-boy, a renowned afro-centric broadcaster, dominated the airwaves in a career spanning over four decades.

 His illustrious career as a multi-award-winning radio legend includes serving as station manager for SABC's Thobela FM. 

“He endeared himself to his legion of listeners through popular shows such as 'Di Sale Malekelekeng', 'Mmino o a Bolela', 'Di Sa Fisha' and most recently, 'Afrika Ya Dinaledi',” reads the statement issued by the foundation on September 29.

"Rutang bana ditaola, le se ye natso badimong’” - A profound African saying, and in this context, the driving force behind the formation of the Max Mojapelo Foundation (MMF),” said Malope Tleane, the spokesperson of the foundation.

The foundation was set up with the mission to preserve music history and cultural heritage and serve as a reference library and education resource for members of the community and academic institutions.

In a separate statement released by the foundation, on October 03, states that the keynote address was given by Dr Sello Galane, a widely respected musician whose editorial fingerprints are all over Mojapelo's popular book, Beyond Memory.

For generations to draw into his captivating wisdom, Max the mixer boy's books, recordings, and radio relics that personify this legend were on display.


His fans, supporters and former colleagues were also present during the launch of his foundation.

Dr Moloko Mashamaite, who host Tabakgolo, a talk show on Thobela FM, Isaac Masilo Mashila, a senior mandate producer for the station, and Mokgadi Matlebjane, a producer for the station, and sports commentator Connie Matjipa were among those who graced the event.
