South Africans are reeling after the passing of Lebohang Mpyana, who was popularly known as “Khelina” on Mzansi Magic’s drama series Diep City.

The actress, comedianee, and master of ceremonies who was born in Ga-Mokgokong in Moletjie, Limpopo, died on November 02.

T Mpyana the family spokesperson confirmed the passing of the star on her Facebook page.

“It is with great sadness to announce the passing of our daughter Lebogang Mpyana.”

“Lebo died after a short illness,” reads the statement.

The family has asked the public to keep them in their thoughts and prayers in this time of bereavement.

“Memorial service and funeral service details will follow,” T Mpyana added.

On November 01, the family spokesperson asked the fans and supporters of the star to stop tagging her Facebook page.

The 34-year-old rose to prominence with her funny and entertaining videos on TikTok, with her popular singing out catchphrase O nhlokomele (watch me), which landed later her a tv acting gig.

Lehohang won the hearts of many people as she graced television screens for portraying the character of “Khelina”, a nosy and gossipmonger on Diep City, which was later cancelled.

The star has played with legendary actors such as Sonia Mbele, Dawn Thandeka King, Hamilton Dlamini, and Mduduzi Mabaso.

Her hard work and dedication to her work led her to winning the Viewers Choice Best Actress Award in 2021, at the Royalty Soapie Awards.

Fans and supporters of hers took to social media platforms to express their sympathies following her death.

“ Robala ka Kgotso Sesi Lebo 😭 Lehu la gago le re robile pelo e le ruri 💔 #riplebohangmpyana,” said Dr Winnie Mashaba on Facebook.

X user (formerly known as Twitter) @PercryMaluleka said: “May her soul rest in peace what a talent #RIPLEBOGANG.”

“Nfanaka bathong🕊️🕊️🕊️💔💔💔,” stated @mashabelacomedy on Instagram.
